Oh! about the alpha-dog thingy...Gingin is the boss at home, for most parts that is.

Buddy is a very strong, very confident and self assured dog, but would totally indulge Ginger and let her get away with everything.
But outside Buddy does all the hard work. Ginger would give an alarm if she sees a stray dog or cat & start the chase but Buddy would continue while she stands and seems to supervise!
She seems to rely on Buddy a lot to take care of her in sticky situations, like say when the fire crackers scared her, she huddled close to Buddy & he let her sleep against him.
They have developed a wonderful friendship & solidarity which is so endearing.

We are hoping our tiny little braveheart will learn soon.
After all he has been living with us for just 4 days...!
like u said, he will need to figure out his position in the pack.
