Tummy Tickle Tuesday - a serious dilemma!

Max - For today's 'Tummy Tickle Tuesday' post I'm sending a plea out to all my bloggie pals out there for advice and guidance!! As the weather here is changing and it's getting colder we're starting to snuggle under warm blankies. But what's a pup to do when he's snug under a blanket AND he wants a tummy tickle? As you can see below I have 'assumed he position' but as my tummy is covered no tickle is forthcoming from female human - gasp!

Exhibit A - a tickle-less tummy lies beneath the blanket....

Max - If any pup out there has any suggestions of how to overcome this serious dilemma it would be most appreciated.

JD - *Rolls eyes!* Oh brother!!!!

Max, it's clear to me that the problem is not the blanket, but, sadly, a poorly-trained human. Your body language could not be clearer, but your human is not responding to your cue.

You may have to go back to basics, re-training on simple commands like "I'm cute, bend to my will and pat me", etc.

This is definitely worth the effort, because once you have reliable behaviour around tummy tickling, you can move on to more advanced behaviours such as the highly rewarding "full body-huggle."

Some puppies recommend barking to get their human's attention, but I must say my human has never responded well to that. She tends to give me a funny look, then wander off somewhere.

Let me know how you go with the training - maybe I can pick up some tips from you!

Mmmm, mine would go the way of rolling up in the blanket untill ya mum had none.. then roll on your back and look cute, she will soon get the message that tummy rub means she can keep a little blanket on her knees

Maybe you need to do a little kick with your back legs - sort of like prodding your human's arm with it - again and again...she might get the idea? I usually use my front paws, which are so heavy that whoever I lay it on just cannot ignore it! :-)

Sasha is correct, it's all about retraining your people. Maybe reach over with your paw to grab her paw. If all else fails whine a little bit, and then lick her paw when she tickles your tummy.

Now we all know that people are terribly hard to train, but if you stick with it and stay persistant, they can learn!

How about a nudge with the cute little head or a gentle paw of the paw?

You two are just going to have to come up for air every now & then & make sure they're waiting to tickle your tummy when you do!

Humans! Pfffft, as we well know, they are as dumb as rocks. You TRY to train them but it would be easier to get a couple of chimps.

Max -

We're with Sasha, the fault is not in you or your blankie but your human.

We recommend giving her that sad woeful look that we schnauzers have perfected throughout the years; if that doesn't work do what we do then we're stumped!

Best of luck to you...

Oh and JD... we know you love a good tummy tickle too ;-)

Penny agrees with Sasha, but with the additional information that humans can be trained to tummy-tickle through bedding, towels, etc. The best way is to show them you love having a bath, which encourages them to learn how to tummy tickle with a towel whilst drying you.

When they have conquered this rather simple trick, you can move on to blankets.
